Mature Skin Series: Lets talk Hyaluronic Acid

As our skin matures, whether due to ageing or lifestyle, our ability to hold on to, or produce Hyaluronic Acid within our skin depletes. This can lead to more pronounced wrinkles and loss of elasticity as it plays a major role in stimulating Collagen and plumping the skin. Well known for its superb moisturising properties as it holds 1000 times its weight in water, it is commonly used in moisturisers and serums but now you can buy it as a “stand alone” product to layer within your skincare routine.

Mature skin series: Lets talk Hyaluronic Acid

Not only incredibly important for hydrating the skin, Hyaluronic Acid is also an antibacterial and anti-inflammatory product, making it a key item to use on a broken, sensitive, red, acne, roseacia prone skin. With so many products on the market, it can be confusing knowing which you should go for and many would argue that you do get what you pay for. My opinion is that anything is better than nothing and with technology changing all the time, budget friendly brands are able to provide us with products that are purse friendly and still offer our skin what it needs.

You also need to check the ingredients listing and notice the difference between Hyaluronic Acid and Sodium Hyaluronate. Some brands include both and some choose one or the other. Hyaluronic Acid is what I have explained above and Sodium Hyaluronate is a salt derivative of HA making it cheaper to produce, but…more easily absorb by the skin. With so many to choose from it can be a tad confusing, but I do believe if you have skin, you need to incorporate HA on the daily, especially heading into the Winter and cooler months.

I have tested some on various budgets below.

*Alpha-H Hyaluronic 8 £38.00 25ml

Alpha-H Hyaluronic *

I have been absolutely loving this product since i received it at the launch a few months ago. You all know I have some real favourite Alpha H Glycolic products HERE and HERE   so I was super excited to try this product. What makes this Hyaluronic product so special is that it contains “Primalhyal Ultrafiller which  is an intense hydrating serum that visibly firms, plumps and revitalises the complexion” It has 8 potent ingredients – hence the name – including multi weighted forms of Hyaluronic Acid. I really love this product because it is super light on the skin and does not leave behind any sticky residue what so ever. It immediately sinks in and leaves a silky veil over the skin, that makes the skin feel so, so baby soft. Immediately the skin appears hydrated and plump but also over time this really does give a youthful glow and bounce and fine lines and wrinkles appear much less prominent. This is like  “Filler in a bottle” it really is that good! This is the one that I have been layering with my skincare morning and evening with incredible results. Available HERE

Niod Multi-Molecular Hyaluronic Complex £38 for 30ml

Niod Multi-Molecular Hyaluronic Complex

This is a very advanced Serum that now contains 12 forms of Hyaluronic acid. We all know about Hyaluronic acid and how amazing it is on our skin. Half of our bodies Hyaluronic Acid is located within the collagen of our skin so it is very important. It helps to retain over 1000 times it’s weight in water with our cells so adding this onto our skin gives huge benefits. Not only is HA amazing at hydrating, plumping and almost detoxifying the impurities of our skin, but it is a great anti-ageing product. If you are using the full NIOD system you would slot this in after using the Copper Amino Isolate Serum, if using this alone after another brand then I would use this after cleansing. This can be taken all the way up to the eyes too, which is great for the fine lines around that area. This is thiner than the previous serum and I use about three drops onto my hands and then pat it into my skin. Immediately it sinks in which is great as it starts working straight away. Jane Scrivner Bioluronic Buzz Smoothing Hyaluronic Hydrator 50g £32

Jane Scrivener Bioluronic buzz

A much thicker product than the one above, you really do get a lot of product for your money here. In a fab pump dispenser, you get a measured does of hydration with each pump. If you have a more reactive skin, this works wonderfully at, not only hydrating beautifully, but calming and soothing the skin. The inclusion of White Willow (Salycilic Acid) also adds a deep down exfoliating element to this product, which although you cant feel happening, adds to the brightness of the skin, but also helps skin suffering from inflammation.

“Attracts up to a 1000 times hydration into the skin to fortify and maintain skin texture and Barrier Function  Spilanthes Acmella to reduce muscle tension and smooth micro wrinkles and lines”

I adore using this product under make up, especially on cooler days as it leaves the skin feeling lovely and smooth, and when it dries down the tackiness disappears immediately. When I know I am using more coverage in my make up, this gives me that lovely layer of protection, my skin feels nourished and feed and looks bright and plump. Wonderful on all skin types but I love it on my mature skin. Available HERE

Ingredients : Aqua (Water), Hyaluronic Acid, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Propanediol, Salix Alba Bark, Aleo Barbendensis Extract, Sodium Bicarbonate, Boswelia Carteri Extract, Phytic Acid, Benzyl Alcohol, Spilanthes Acmella Flower Extract.

Nip + Fab Hydrate Dragons Blood Hyaluronic Shot 30ml £24.95

Nip + Fab Dragons Blood Hyaluronic Shot

This is a brilliant product for anyone with a real thirsty, dehydrated and almost dry skin, especially as we are heading into those cold Autumn/Winter months.

” Dragons Blood is a sap found in the Croton Lechleri tree in the Amazon, it works to protect and heal the skin from all outside aggressions. The Dragons Blood is combined with an unbeatable 50% Hyaluronic Solution which works to instantly plumps the appearance of the skin.”

This orange coloured serum works wonderfully on its own but I love to mix it with my night cream of an evening to really give my skin an added moisture hit over night. You can of course use it day time too as it works at protecting the skin from environmental aggressors. For me though, this is my night fix, when i am resting this can heal any skin damage by aiding cell turnover and reducing any inflammation and when I wake up my skin looks and feels plump and soft. Wonderful product. Available HERE

Revolution Skincare 2% Hyaluronic Acid £6.00 30ml

Revolution Hyaluronic Acid

This was my first foray into Revolutions skincare and as a brand that we know likes to imitate others, I was interested in this formula. I love the packaging, with the glass bottle and Rose Gold coloured accents making it appear but more expensive than it is, but I really do not enjoy the smell. To me, and I do have a very sensitive nose, it has a plastic, almost alcohol smell to it which I just didn’t like. The product itself is very light, sinks in quickly, leaving a tacky residue behind, which does eventually disappear and it does hydrate the skin, but it is the smell, for me it’s just not enjoyable. However I know so many of you enjoy this brand, but I will not be purchasing this one again. Available HERE

Ingredients: Aqua/Water/Eau, Propanediol, Glycerin, Butylene Glycol, Sodium Hyaluronate, Sodium Hyaluronate Crosspolymer, Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Sorbate, Disodium Edta, Pentylene Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin.

I hope you have enjoyed that look into Hyaluronic Acid. With so many available from so many different brands, it is worth deciding what you want from your skincare, and checking the ingredients list. I enjoy them all for different reasons except the Revolution one, which I will not purchase again. It really does depend on your skins needs and of course budget. All products are available by clicking on the link or by clicking the shop above.

I would love to hear from you. Are you using a HA already? What are you using? Will you be trying any of those I have listed above? I would love to hear from you so do please leave me a comment below.
