Why it is important to switch up your body skincare regime in Winter – in association with SBC

As the nights draw in, many of us tend to not see any daylight other than that peeping through an office window. Skincare regimes and pampering sessions are replaced with quick showers as we hide our bodies under layers upon layers of clothes. However, it is skincare routines set in place during these colder, darker months of Winter, that will leave our bodies and mind in good stead for those promising months of Spring and Summer.

Just like with anything in life, you get out what you put in and the same applies to our skins health and wellbeing. Looking after our skin in these colder months, will not only make us look and feel better now, but will give us less work to do when those surprisingly warm days of Spring pop up on us.

One of my top tips for looking after our skin in Winter is staying hydrated, and no I don’t mean Prosecco! Yes it is the party season right now and a lot more alcohol and sugary drinks will be consumed, but drinking plenty of water will not only look after our body on the inside, but have a wonderful affect on the outside too. Another tip is to switch up the texture of skincare and go for more nourishing and hydrating formulas where possible, to really work against dry skin.

During the Winter months, I want to be in my warm clothes for as long as possible, which makes my evening ritual of moisturising and looking after my skin, completely different to the long, lingering pampering sessions of Summer. This is where my love of SBC products come in. They offer my skin a wonderful level of hydration and softness whether I am languishing in them for hours or slapping them on in minutes.

For those of you new to the brand, I have used SBC products for over 15 years ( I think it is more like 20 but it has been forever!). This British brand, that was founded in 1988 uses only the finest quality and naturally derived ingredients to bring us fuss free, practical, affordable and effective Eco friendly skincare.

So, talking all things body, in the Winter I like to use really nourishing and hydrating products in the bath and shower.

Morning Routine

SBC’s Manuka Honey & Orange Blossom Bath and Shower Crème is a must have shower product for the whole family. The uplifting scent of Warm Orange Blossom clears the mind of any stress and adds a sense of clarity, whilst the nurturing New Zealand Manuka Honey, adds that hit of warmth and comfort I need to face a Winters day. The inclusion of Propolis makes this wonderful at easing my stressed and dried out skin  without using any harsh products. I apply a few pumps of this deliciously luxurious product on to a shower sponge and let the soft, naturally foaming bubbles get to work at cleansing and moisturising my skin. Just because I am in the shower, doesn’t mean it should be any less pampering!

SBC Manuka & Orange Blossom Shower Cream

To moisturise my skin in the mornings after my shower, I need something that is going to be super hydrating but is not going to take me five years to rub in. This is where I opt for the delicately scented, light, yet luxurious Cotton Hand & Body Lotion. Used on my youngest son since it was first launched, this 100% allergen free product is super gentle on the whole family and much loved within my household. I choose this, not only because it has the most wonderfully silky texture upon application, but because it is soothing on my legs after I have just shaved them, calms down any stressed skin – especially on my arms if I have been wearing lots of woolly jumpers – and the milky lotion just disappears into the skin in seconds. I also apply a layer of this on the back of my hands before the school run, just as I am popping on my woolly gloves. By the time I get home, I have super soft hands. Highly recommend this for the whole family at this time of the year.

As a side note, I also want to give special mention to the Cotton Body Oil, which is as beautiful on new born babies skin to keep them hydrated, as it is on dry, or more mature skin. This is also the oil I like to wear on my arms and legs when I am wearing a party dress, as not only does it make my legs look beautifully soft and supple but it adds a veil of hydration, so if the wind picks up, I only have to worry about keeping my skirt down and not scaly legs!

Evening Routine

My evening skincare routine is a little different as this is when I have more time to really relax and enjoy my products. I also love to bathe in the evening and use this as my time to unwind. I find that adding a few pumps of the Manuka Honey & Orange Blossom Bath and Shower Crème under running water, gives me luxuriously soft, delicate bubbles, and fills the air with a glorious spa like scent. It really helps me unwind from the stresses of the day and soothes and smooths my skin, whilst leaving it looking and feeling perfectly clean, without stripping it.

Of an evening I love to use a scrub, it really is a must have at removing dry flaky skin from the legs and feet and also keeping the backs of the arms looking and feeling lovely and smooth. As I have a more mature, almost thinning skin, I like a scrub that feels like its working without tearing my skin apart. The Manuka Honey & Orange Blossom Body Scrub is not only a beautiful accompaniment to the shower crème, but also a super fast-to-use product that gives me immediate results. This really wakes up my circulation and gets the blood flowing. Containing Dead Sea Salt, crushed Natural Sugar and the New Zealand Manuka Honey, it is a very satisfying scrub that doesn’t damage the skin, but removes those dry flaky bits whilst also enveloping it in Vitamin E and Sweet Almond Oil. Seriously, if you want super smooth pins for the Christmas Season and those party dresses, this is absolutely your best friend and it leaves the skin silky smooth.

Stepping up my textures in Winter I add the  Honey Body Butter to my routine. I find that this sinks into my skin quickly and beautifully without leaving any sticky residue behind. This allows me to dress immediately whilst leaving my skin feeling wonderfully smooth and hydrated. Perfect for use all over the body, feet and back of hands, the Honey Body Butter smells divine. Containing Shea Butter, Olive Fruit and a herbal infusion of Rosemary, Parsley, Sage and Thyme, not only does it leave your skin feeling velvety smooth, but over time, it improves the texture and tone of the skin and I love that. On the days I am home I love to smoother my feet in this too, and pop on a pair of woolly socks, when the product has sunk in, I am left with super soft feet.

I can wholeheartedly promise you that by incorporating these few easy steps into your daily bathing and showering routine, your skin will thank you for it. No more dry, scaly, flaky legs or itchy bumpy arms, just beautifully soft and cared for skin. You can purchase any of the products I have mentioned HERE

I honestly hadn't really even thought about different seasons for skincare, makes sense though. I'm new to skincare and really making an effort, so this is all valuable advice to me x

I'm a big fan of SBC too and especially the Collagen range. I use the Bath and Shower Creme all the time unless I've run out and waiting for the annual Collagen TSV on QVC! I find this usually leaves my skin feeling quite hydrated but if I feel I need a bit more then it's the Collagen gel most of the year but when that's not enough I move up to the body butter or mix the two. I'm nearly out of the collagen body butter but have a honey one in the cupboard which I haven't opened yet so having read your article I'm now looking forward to trying it and seeing how it compares with the collagen.
