Black Lives Matter

For those of you that follow me on Instagram, you may have noticed my silence this past week or so. After posting the Black Square for #BlackOutTuesday and Black Lives Matter  I remained silent and offline. This was as a sign of respect, solidarity and a way to find resources to share with my online community. This was to learn, educate myself, have conversations with those around me, listen and find some ways to help.

The death of George Floyd was horrific and yet as someone said…“What about all those murders that haven’t been filmed, the ones we don’t see…..” Remember the death of Stephen Lawrence.. there have been racist attacks and moments we have seen and heard about, but has anything changed? Yes I write about Beauty but I have to take this time to ask you all to educate yourselves and those around you on Black History and the daily fight Black people go through.. something I have been doing much more of this past 10 days or so. Start the conversation with friends and family….

Think about the language you use, are you teaching your children about diversity? Do they have a Black doll, read about Black  History.. its a start…. You may think you don’t have a voice, but you do whether its to your children, your friend, your neighbour or an online social media following, we have a voice to make a change.

We are not perfect but we can make a change… over on my Instagram under the BLM highlight are a list of resources that I have shared and will share some here. These are some of the many slides that jumped out to me on Instagram and in which I found more information, i have kept the Instagram handle attached for you to take a look too.

There are so many incredible books we can learn from and if you don’t have time to read, because you are not doing your usual work commute anymore please FIND THE TIME. Currently I am “reading” on audible (whilst cooking, doing the housework, bathing or exercising ) Why i’m no longer talking to white people about race – by Reni Eddo-Lodge, it has opened my eyes to so, so much more than I ever realised was going on.

There is no room for Racism in my world and yet it exists…We have to pull together as a community and create a fairer society for all to live in.

Regarding my blog I will feature more diversity in the brands I use and talk about, feature more Black Owned Beauty Brands and try and do the best I can. I am keeping this post short as it is up to the individual to do the best they can and what they feel they need to. I will update this with  relevant information as I find it but for now I am just re- sharing content, books and movies I have seen others speak about.

Thanks for reading,
