If you have been following me on Instagram, you will know that this year i have had three surgeries and lots of medication. I lead a busy, often stressful life and was feeling sluggish, unhealthy and sometimes lacking motivation. I had heard about the Prolon 5 day Mimicking fasting diet so when i was offered the chance to try it, i jumped at it.

prolon mimicking fast

ProLon is the first and only clinically tested, fasting program. ProLon® is a 5-day food box of primarily plant-based, non-GMO, gluten-free, food that assumed in the indicated combination avoids your body’s food sensing system, thereby helping you achieve your fasting goals.

Prolon Day 1 Food

Prolon tricks the body into thinking it is fasting whilst still allowing you to eat enough food to get by. Now, i know something like this is not for everyone, but before i even considered embarking on this Prolon 5 day Mimicking fasting diet  i spoke to my doctor. I explained i wanted to do this as a way of Cleansing my system, giving my metabolism a kick up the arse and hopefully help me feel more energised. I am someone that has always tried my best to lead a healthy lifestyle, i have been a pescatarian for over 35 years, i take my supplements, i eat primarily healthy but… sometimes life gets in the way. Lockdown, moving less and working from home more ( plus all the gin) all lead to a static more rounder Sharon hahahaha.

Before embarking on the programme i had a very long and helpful conversation with Don Gordon the UK Prolon expert and nutritionist. He gave me lots of hints and tips about using the programme and looking at it as a 5 day retreat for my body. He told me to practice lots of self care, calm, body brushing, relaxing and meditation – DOES HE KNOW MY LIFE???? TBH he was such a lovely man with such a zest for the Prolon 5 day Mimicking fasting diet that i couldn’t wait to start it.

Prolon fast

When the box arrived it literally had everything i needed for the next five days. The days were individually boxed, there were information sheets showing all the nutrition advice, telling me which  order to eat my meals.

I have written the following post in diary style each day. This way i can show a true representation of my thoughts and feelings.

Day 1

Prolon Nut Bar

This morning was really busy for me as i had to have a hospital appointment. As i travelled there and back by public transport wearing a face covering, i knew i wouldn’t be able to eat my breakfast bar. I had my breakfast of the Nut Bar and Vitamin Supplement back home at around 12pm when my tummy rumbled. It tasted nice, was quite big and took away my rumblings.

2pm

Prolon Minestrone soup

I decided was a good time for lunch so on the hob i heated up the Minestrone Soup Mix and had that with 11 Mini Kale crackers and 8 olives. Now, it was 27 degrees today so soup actually made me drip with sweat hahahaha but it was tasty, i added some fresh herbs and plenty of black pepper. I loved eating the Kale crackers with it and they were very delicious but boy oh boy was i full up! A great start to the Prolon programme.

I also had a glass of water, my spearmint herbal tea and 2 supplements.

7.30pm

Prolon tomato soup mix

By 7.30pm i was ready for dinner and missing my afternoon Almond milk latte. I wasn’t craving it, just missing that ritual of taking 5 minutes with my coffee. I drank loads of water and carried on working. At dinner time i mixed up my packet soup with water and cooked on the hob. I added lots of black pepper and it tasted ok. Nothing like my favourite Heinz soup and cheese sandwich but i need to remind myself its just 5 days and i want to feel less sluggish.

9.00pm

Prolon L Bar Choco Crisp

I had my Choco Crisp snack. It was gooey and chewy and tasted nice, plus it was great to feel like i was getting a chocolate hit.

Apart from it being boiling hot and me eating two lots of soups, today went really well and i didn’t miss any food or treats.

Day 2

prolon l drink

I woke up actually dreading soup. Purely because we are experiencing a heatwave and knowing  i have to eat soup twice a day fills me with dread. However, today was a busy day. I took my Prolon Nut bar to the station with me to eat, and didn’t get home until 5pm and was starving. I made sure i sipped my L-Drink throughout the day too

5pm

prolon mushroom soup

As soon as i walked through the door i opened my pack of Olives and gobbled then up whilst heating up my Mushroom soup. This soup was actually really nice though i was boiling hot eating it.

prolon tea

By early evening i had a banging headache so much so that i just couldn’t face soup for dinner so i had another pack of olives, my choco crisp bar and herbal tea continued sipping on my special drink and called it a day.

Day 3

Another boiling 27 degree heat of a day when all i want is an iced coffee and a tuna salad. Today i am in a bad mood. i am hot i am bothered and i want to chew food and not drink soup. I was warned this might happened and it has, i just need to remind myself its just 5 days.

Prolon L Drink & Nut Bar

Breakfast started with my Special L-Drink which is a plant-based glycerin (sugar syrup) with a little bit of flavoring. You get a four ounce bottle each day, to mix into a big sports bottle of water and sip on throughout the day. When you’re fasting, the glycerol helps to protect amino acids, which preserves lean body mass, and my nut bar.

2pm

Prolon tomatoe soup mix

By 2pm i had been working and sweating and decided i was hungry so on the menu for lunch on day 3 is Tomato Soup Mix, my Vitamin Supplements and Crackers. I added lots of black pepper and crunched my crackers up and sprinkled them on top. I really do love the Kale Crackers.

7pm

prolon minestrone soup

Feeling tired but still having some work to do, i decided now was a good time to have my Minestrone soup. I put it in a cup and drank it slowly – as it was such a hot day it made me feel comfortably full. I also made sure to finish my full 3 litres of water today.

Day 4

Prolon Day 4

I woke up today feeling happy i am almost at the end of my Prolon 5 day mimicking fast. I wasn’t feeling hungry or particularly tired today but i did have a bit of an upset stomach.

12pm

Prolon Nut Bar

12pm I had my L-Bar Nut Based bar, its filling and i actually like the chewiness as they taste just like a flapjack. I forgo the herbal tea today and filled up on my L-Drink and lots of water.

3pm

prolon minestrone soup

I felt a belly rumble so cooked my Vegetable Soup Mix with lots of black pepper, ate my 8 olives and took my vitamin supplement. I then followed this with the days second bag of 8 olives as i fancied something a little salty.

7pm

Prolon quinoa soup

I started feeling tired again and am waiting for some energy and felt some selfcare was needed. I had my Minestrone With Quinoa Soup mix, this is my favourite, its more satisfying and tasty and actually fills me up. I then ran a lovely bath and took my water and Choco Crisp bar in there with me – However, i did cheat…. i had a slimline tonic water with a slice of orange in as i wanted something fresh and light to drink. I followed this with an early night.

Day 5

Prolon Day 5

Finally i have made it to day 5 and i am happy to be honest. I have found it to be a long week. I have only had 3 hours sleep as my insomnia has kicked in and i have a headache.

Prolon Vitamins

11am The day started with my L-Bar Nut Bar, Algal Oil Vitamin and L-Drink….. and a almond milk latte, yes i had a coffee!! I just fancied it and thought i am having it, nothing more, nothing less…..

Prolon tomatoe soup mix

2pm Time for my last Tomato Soup Mix and i am so happy about that as this is the one i find the least flavourful, however today i had my beloved Kale Crackers so every cloud hahahahah. This was followed with my NR-3 Vitamin.

7pm Time for my final Minestrone Soup Mix… i take my time, fill my belly and prepare for an early night.

Day 6

I made it! I feel happy i got through and am 5 lbs lighter. I am looking forward to incorporating some light food back into my diet the next few days.

Ok, here is the thing…. i could have easily fancied up the photos and made the Prolon 5 day Mimicking fasting diet look much prettier than it is..but! I am a busy working mum with a child with a broken collar bone, on Summer holidays in a heat wave. By the time i made the food i was so hungry i took a quick snap and then ate. This is real life.

Points to note:

I think i would do it again but most definitely when i do not have so many pulls on my time and not in a heatwave. It is incredibly convenient and i think if you don’t have food and temptation in your fridge from other family members you will find it much easier. Honestly I’m not sure how much the vitamins did as they are cumulative so taking a couple in 5 days wouldn’t really do much.

All in all i am happy i have done it and given my body a reset, i am happy i have lost some weight as a side effect, i just wish i had the energy i thought i would after 5 days but i am putting this down to currently being really busy.

Well DONE You!!!! what a valuable experience. I would have had cold tea infusions with the heat that may have helped a little and a pinch of Himalayan Crystal sea salt for additional electrolytes due to the heat. That’s probably why you fancied something salty?

    • backtoyoubeauty says:

HI Don, Yes i did have one cold infusion to be honest, but it was so hot, however i really enjoyed it and have lost another two pounds this week from the good practices i learned.

Love your honesty. Five days doesn’t sound long until life and stresses get added in, then it can seem an eternity. I do think this sounds more do-able for winter months. xxx Lucy xxx
