What does Fragrance mean to you? To me it evokes a memory, a feeling, a moment in time. It is something that is so powerful and something I wear every day. The moment I smelt the brand new fragrance Poppy & Barley from Jo Malone, I was instantly in love, more so than any other fragrance I think I have ever smelt before.

The fact that I was able to also share the moment and the experience with my youngest son has now paired that fragrance with that memory. My son, love and happiness will forever be wrapped in the fragrance of Poppy & Barley.

When my good friends at the Jo Malone counter  in Fenwick of Bond Street invited me down to experience the fragrance, I jumped at the chance, as it was also the Summer holidays I brought my youngest with me. Immediately the gorgeous window display, featuring the iconic Jo Malone Townhouse jumped out at us and I was intrigued.

As we walked in i could see the fragrance on the counter and made a bee line straight for it…literally that first spritz hit me like a ton of fresh, fruity, floral happiness and i was in fragrance heaven. If you think you may have heard of this scent before then you are right. It was initially launched last year as a Limited Edition but due to its overwhelming popularity, has now been brought back as a permininent resident of the Jo Malone Cologne line.

This fragrance is a colourful burst of Summer in England, it has a creamy warmth that is bursting with fresh juicy fruits that have been softened by the late, hot Summers that we get.

With Top Notes of the juiciest, most ripe Blackcurrants, tantalising the senses with it’s fruity yet crisp edge, the Heart Note of Poppy, which smells incredibly beautiful – the thought of the smell of Poppies  was created by Master Perfumier  Mathilde Bijaoui. As a Poppy does not really have a smell the perfumier blended an accord of Green Notes and Red Rose to express the Glorious colours and scent of this quintessential British field flower. Add some warm ripe Fig and Violet Flowers and round it off with the Base Notes of Barley with it’s unique Woody almost Musky tone and you have something very, very special.

To me this fragrance screams happiness, it is joyful and light and uplifting and so so flirty. It dances on the Skin as though you have run through a Wild Flower and Wheat Field on a scorching Summers days picking wild Blackcurrants as you go. I actually think that in all my 20 or so years of wearing and purchasing Jo Malone fragrances, this is my favourite. This is love…..
