I know that when it comes to purchasing a foundation from a brand that has many, it may be hard knowing which is the right one for you. Well, today I am answering one of my most asked beauty questions – “Which Doll 10 Foundation is right for me?”
Many of you may know I have bought, used and loved Doll 10 since it launched in the UK over 8 years ago. It is a brand I love and share possibly more often than most, because it literally suits all ages and stages. I know that when I feature their QVCUK Todays Special Values it can be hard to know which foundation and shade is right for you, so I hope this post helps you out in some way… This post will be updated as and when new foundations are released, please note the shade differences of the same colour within each foundation. Hopefully I can answer “Which Doll 10 Foundation is right for me?”
Hydra Fluid Foundation Drops
Wow who remembers these back in the day! I was absolutely obsessed and from the moment I first tried them, they were all I would use. I love the glamour of the glass bottle, the coverage of the fluid foundation, the satin smooth feeling on my skin I loved it all. Sadly due to issues regarding the pipette style dropper Doll 10 stopped making it in this configuration, but I kept my bottle for my beauty vault! Let me know if you loved this too!
I started using this new formula in 2015 as Doris kindly gifted it to me and for a year i had to keep it a secret until it finally launched in the UK in February 2016. This is a wonderful and some might say the best foundation across the Doll 10 Range. Containing their then Brand new Hydragel formula, this is a lightweight, yet full coverage foundation, where a little really does go a long way. Super light and smooth whilst covering pigmentation, redness and all round uneven skin tone, this is a heavy duty foundation by means of coverage. Containing high density pure pigments which are suspended in the gel formula, it gives a radiant and flawless base. As Doris herself would say, this covers a third arm if you have it. If full coverage comfort is what you are after, this would most definitely be the way to go.
Hydralux Smoothing Foundation
I think this foundation launched in the UK in early 2018
This incredibly lightweight, yet very full coverage serum type foundation creates a flawless look on the skin. Containing muscle relaxing Hexapeptide and antioxidants, its aim is to smooth the skin whilst offering a full coverage. Quite thin and almost watery on application, it blends seamlessly into the skin without sitting in the fine lines and wrinkles. Apparently, after four weeks of constant use, people have seen a reduction in the look of their pores and lines. As I never wear the same foundation on consecutive days, I cannot comment on that, but it does make the skin look incredibly smooth and dewy.
One word of warning though, if you apply too much, the foundation can look quite orange in tone. I have the fair and the light and the fair is very yellow based, whereas the light looks much better on my skin. Use a dense make up brush for fuller coverage and always apply the foundation into the centre of the face, buffing and blending outwards. In my opinion this is perfect for a more Mature skin or anyone seeing those fine lines and wrinkles.
HydraBalm Serum infused Foundation
This unique foundation is your perfect blend of 50% serum and 50% colour that offers a full coverage look. The swirl in the foundation is your unique blend of a 10 ingredient serum that protects, perfects and hydrates the skin, whilst the pigment lays down the colour. Including ingredients such as Hyaluronic, Peptides and Retinol, this FOUNDATION (crazy right) has the power to also brighten and tighten the skin as you use it. Perfect for all skin types, but works exceptionally well on a more mature/dry skin type, this foundation can be used instead of your morning skincare and primer. If you have to wear make up all day long, it might as well be doing you some good right? Personally I apply this on top of my skincare, when my skincare has dried down as I love the layering effect of using both. However, it is recommended to be used in place of your serum, moisturiser and primer, so play around with it and see how your skin feels.
The product is foil sealed to protect the skincare inside, so that it is nice and fresh when you use it, and comes inside a fab compact that has a inner lid, to cover the foundation, as well as an outer lid, a mirror and a sponge applicator. Now Doris does suggest applying it with a brush, but I love to use this with my beauty blender. Immediately this feels soft and cooling on the skin, literally like applying moisturiser. It is a full coverage so try and choose your shade wisely. The Medium-Coverage finish is dewy with a pretty glow, that illuminates the skin and makes it look super hydrated. This is suited for someone that likes a dewy skin glow. Great for touch ups throughout the day.
HydraBalm Stick Foundation
This is one of my top 5 all time favourite foundations!! I use this when I want a fast, flawless make up look and all the time in Summer when I want coverage. This foundation offers the most exceptional, non drying, full coverage look in literally minutes. A few swipes of this infusion of skincare and colour over the face, blended with a brush gives a lovely, almost dewy coverage that compliments my dehydrated, mature skin. This is my “busy-mum-on-the-run” must have.
Doll Skin Anti-Stress Skin Perfector
Again, I was lucky enough to use this about 9 months before its UK launch and I really fell in love with it. However it’s debut launch into the UK was September 2019 and also the first product that Leigh Griffin (formally of Tarte Cosmetics) worked on with Doris and the Team. If you love the consistency of Bareminerals Complexion Rescue, you will love this. Jam packed full of skin loving ingredients and Vitamins, this is all about giving you the most perfect version of your own skin, without being cakey or heavy or looking like a “regular” foundation. This contains Aloe Vera to sooth a reactive skin, Lavender to calm, Green Tea Extract to energise a tired complexion, Turmeric to fight inflammation and many more skin loving ingredients. What I like about this foundation is that it has the ability to blend into your skin tone, using a unique technology it is able to find the pigments of your skin and almost match it. It is also very buildable so you can apply what you need for more or less coverage.
Whilst they do not have a huge shade range available I know they are working on creating more shades. I would usually wear Medium in this, especially around Summer as it adapts to your skin tone nicely. One pump is more than enough to offer a great lightweight coverage, that conceals imperfections but lets your skin shine through, making it look natural. Perfect for anyone with a stressed or reactive skin or that doesn’t want a heavy finish.
When I asked Doris Dalton for Shade tips a few years back, here is what she said –
“Shade choices for the foundations are pretty easy..
The Fair shade is for ultra fair gals.. You always burn in the sun.. Think Nicole Kidman or Snow White .. It has a bit of a Pink undertone to it..
Light is the shade that I wear.. It’s a bit warmer and not as Pink. A blend between Pink and Yellow. It’s for girls that burn in the sun but then turn to tan.
Medium is warmer then the Light definitely the most popular shade and… has yellow under tones.
Tan is the richest colour for Olive skin tone complexions. The foundation and Concealer match each other.. Don’t forget that in the Summer your foundation tends to be a bit warmer then in the Autumn or Winter months. Even though you use SPF, you still get sun. I typically don’t change my foundation colour. If I notice that it appears a bit light because my skin has warmed in the summer, I usually sweep a small bit of bronzer on my face.. Hope that helps..”
Below i have swatched all the shades in all the formulas that i personally have, so that you can see the difference in shade range of each foundation. So what might be fair in Hydralux might differ from Fair in Hydrabalm if that makes sense? Which Doll 10 Foundation is right for me?….. Check below…..
Fair Doll 10 Foundations
Light Doll 10 Foundations
Light Medium Doll 10 Foundations
Medium Doll 10 Foundations
Tan Doll 10 Foundations
Deep Doll 10 Foundations
I think its easy to see that the shades vary quite a bit in each foundation due to the formula and the pigments used. If you are medium you are lucky as they are all quite similar in shade across all the foundations. I really hope you have found this post useful as it has taken me quite a while to put together. If you need any help just comment below and I will see what I can do.
