I asked 10 Make Up PR’s if they would collaborate with me on this post and only 1 replied!

It is a known fact that Women in their forties, tend to be ignored in the make up department. Having run several polls and asked many, many women over forty, I was shocked by the results. This also made women less inclined to try new make up or play with more colourful make up. Leaving women to stay with their tried and tested brands, and looks of old.  So many women would love to experiment and play with more “Trendy” or “Fashionable” colours and brands, but feel that they are ignored at the make up counter in store, or feel lost when ordering on line. Hence why I do what I do.

Back to you Beauty in full face of Too Faced

Although I am 44 , I work to a huge demographic ranging from 23 years olds up to 82, but a majority part of my readership comes from women in their late 30’s and above who feel lost and scared when it comes to make up.

You know I am not scared of playing with make up, it is my passion and my happy place and I adore anything with colour and I know not everyone has that confidence. Whenever I post a colourful tutorial I have so many comments saying ” You look fab, i would love to be able to try that” well you can! It is only make up and if you make a mistake or it goes wrong, just wash it off and try again.

I am well and truly on a mission to make women over 40 relevant, to make them feel they have just as much right as a 20 year old to purchase make up from certain brands and feel good and look great. Us over 40’s refuse to be ignored within the beauty industry. #Over40NotOverMakeUp – ageism in beauty? Does it really resist?

Wearing Too Faced

With all this in mind, i contacted 10 make up PR compaines to see if they would be willing to collaborate with me on this post. A post about Make Up Brands ignoring women in there 40’s at the make up counter.

I told them about the polls i had done, and the stats i had received and how women in their 30’s and above are so into their make up and have a more “adventerous” budget, but feel they are being ignored at counter or with advertising. Guess what? Only ONE brand offered to help, luckily it’s one of my favourites…but ONE!! Out of all the brands I have featured  on my blog, just one came through.

Too Faced Tutti Frutti

The incredible PR Brand Wizard that works with TOO FACED couldn’t wait to offer a range  of products that they thought you would like to know about. Can you believe it…..just one brand!! But boy oh boy what a brand it is!!

Too Faced Rich & Dazzling High-Shine Sparkling Lip Glosses

Now, you know my obsession with TOO FACED, I have been in love with this brand for years and years and have featured them on my blog and Instagram stories countless times, so I was super thrilled that they wanted to be included. Every Too Faced Palette I own i have purchased myself along with the Mascara, Primer, Bronzer and countless Lipsticks. I find their products fun, flirty, quirky, but most of all, they work. They work on my mature, dehydrated skin, just as well as they work on a younger fresher skin and whilst some of their packaging may be aimed at a younger audience (though to be fair I love all their packaging) there is a huge amount of product that is in beautiful, dressing table worthy packaging, such as the Naturals collection.

too faced shop westfield

For me it is all about quality of product and I have never been let down by any Too Faced product and I have been buying and wearing this brand for years.  When I featured the launch of their Westfield Stratford Store HERE last year, I can confirm that all members of staff were super helpful with me, as is the same in their Carnaby street store. Yes, at first when you walk in you may not know where to look – as the Too Faced stores are bright, colourful and fun HERE but I promise you, make up should be bright, colourful and fun as should life! You will love walking around and testing textures and formulas and colours and creating incredible looks.

Did you know my favourite foundation in the Whole world ever is Born This way from Too Faced? I only started using this in May 2018 and it has been my favourite ever since. Everytime i wear it i get so many complimets on my skin in real life and when i post a photo… So welcome to the world of Too Faced and here are some products that i Know you will love….

Born This Way Foundation 30ml

Too Faced Born this way Foundation

This is my favourite foundation ever and you know how many foundations i have tried in the past 8 years of being a blogger. Seriously, seriously, seriously, you need this foundation in your life!!  If you follow me on Instagram, you will have seen me raving about this foundation many times on my Insta-Stories. I love a foundation that can cover my flaws and pigmentation, yet not look thick or cakey, give me a glow, be hydrating and last all day. Too much to ask for? Not with this foundation! I am currently wearing Warm Nude ( it comes in about 34 shades which is great) and it is the perfect shade for me right now. I am truly having a love affair with this foundation and want to tell anyone looking for naturally radiant skin, to try this out. Containing Coconut Water to restore moisture, brightening Alpine Rose and Hyaluronic Acid, you can see how this oil free formula continues with the theme I am going for. Super hydrating, super comfortable to wear and with a flawless medium to full coverage, I think this has to be my foundation recommendation of the year. If you buy one product from this post, make it this. Available HERE

Peach Perfect Comfort Matte Foundation

Too Faced Peach perfect comfort matte foundation

If you prefer a more Matte foundation, then this is the one for you. It offers a beautiful finish that feels soft and satiny on the skin. Although a Matte Foundation this feels anything but, it is comfortable, oil controlling and offers a 14 hour wear time. Plus it is photo friendly and doesn’t flash back. Infused with Sweet Peaches and Fig Milk it smells mouth-wateringly good upon application, doesn’t settle into fine lines or wrinkles and is hydrating. Plus, i find the shades are very forgiving and almost colour match to the skin, making it easier to find the perfect shade match for you. Available in 30 shades HERE

Born This Way Multi-Use Complexion Powder

Too Faced Born this way Multi Use Complexion Powder

If you are more of a powder kinda-gal when it comes to foundation, then oil free Multi-Use Complexion Powder is the one for you. Only launched in June of this year, this is your perfect multi-use product as it can be used alone to offer a light yet flawless coverage, or over foundation to set it and offer a little more coverage.

Too Faced Born this way Multi Use Complexion Powder

Incredibly light-weight, finely milled, oil free Complexion Powder offers a 12 hour wear and when used throughout the day for touch ups or to stop shine, it still looks flawless with no cakey feel. Infused with Coconut Water, Alpine Rose and Hyaluronic Acid, this really hydrates the skin, and replenishes lost moisture, whilst giving an oil free coverage.  Again, a great one to use in photos as it offers a flashback free look. The packaging is super pretty and stylish with a lovely sized mirror inside the compact and a sponge. It looks great in your handbag for on the go coverage. Available HERE

Born This Way Super Coverage Concealer 15ml

Too Faced Born This Way Concealer

Ok…. this at first may appear for those of you that love a more made up face, in the fact that you can contour with it, conceal with it and highlight etc. If you love Shape Tape from Tarte, you will enjoy this and whilst i dislike comparing brands, that is the closet comparison i can make. For me and my mature skin, i can only use this under my eyes if i add it to my eye gel to thin it out a little. Then it offers me a lovely smooth coverage that makes my dark circles disappear.

Too Faced Born this way concealer light beige

However, where it comes into its own on me is for “Pin Point” concealing. I like to take a small brush and dot this onto my pigmentation, sun spots and any hormonal pimples i may have and then dab in with my damp beauty blender. The doe-foot applicator does allow great precision around the contours of the face and the formula feels lovely and creamy and hydrating on the skin. This can also be applied lightly over the skin instead of foundation so win, win! Available in 35 shades HERE

Now that we have the base sorted it is time to dip into some more “Fun” products. I am not featuring any new palettes today but to read about some of my Favourite Too Faced Eyeshadow Palettes go HERE, HERE and HERE.

Tutti Frutti Fruit Cocktail Blush Duo

Too Faced Fruit Cocktail Blush Duo

One thing a lot of women tend to do as they get older, is stop wearing colour. For me colour on my face is a must have, it brightens the complexion, lifts the skin and adds a youthful glow. Now me, well i love a pink eyeshadow look or a Blue/Purple Smokey eye because i am that adventurous with make up, and whilst i do suggest you try more colour on your face you may want to start with a blush first.

Too Faced Fruit Cocktail Blush Duo melons and apricot

These Cocktail Blush Duos are wonderful at adding that youthful pop of colour to the skin in a grown up way. I love the Tutti Frutti packaging, it is a range that I own a lot from, especially the beautiful lip-glosses. The packaging  is fun and pretty and the fruity scent of the products is mouth-watering but what these do is offer a beautiful colour pay off. I have the duo’s Like my Melons ( A stunning Deep Pink blush with Rose Gold Highlight) And Apricot in the Act ( A more Apricot toned Pinky blush and Gold Highlight) and whilst these may appear very bold and a little scary in the beautiful compact, they are incredibly wearable and offer a buildable swatch of colour across the cheeks with a gorgeous highlight! These really add a gorgeous luminessence to the skin and pull the whole look together. I love these! Available HERE

Peach Puff Long Wearing Diffused Matte Lip Colour

Too Faced Peach Puff Lip Colours

I adore Too Faced lip colours and in-fact the Liquid Lips are still some of my favourites, as well as the Tutti Frutti Lip toppers. However there are a few more lip products from Too Faced that I have been loving over the Summer.  The Peach Puff Lip Collection is one of them and if you love the Peach Collection as a whole HERE you will enjoy these. When I first opened the packaging and noticed the “Puff” top applicator, I though to myself that there was no way this was going to apply evenly and tidy to my lips. I was so wrong, the formula and application of these is just beautiful.

Too Faced Peach Puffed Long Wearing Diffused Lip Colour Swatches

The scent is that gorgeous Peach that we have all come to know and love and the applicator is very soft. The formula is so lightweight, it is how I would imagine it would feel to apply a cloud to your lips hahahaha. It is the softest, most comfortable formula I have EVER applied to my lips and the applicator works wonderfully at offering a precision application. Although these are Matte it is more of a cream Matte and is very comfortable to wear, is kiss proof, coffee cup proof and lasts all day. I have the shades ” You Wish” which is a lovely natural nude shade,  “Straight Fire”  which is my most perfect wearable red and “Peachin to The Choir” is a very pretty Nude Pink. Available in 12 wearable shades HERE

Peach Kiss Moisture Wear Matte long Wear Lipstick

Too Faced Peach Kissed Moisture Wear Matte Long Wear Lipstick in Disrobed

I fell in love with these lipsticks last year at the opening of the Westfield Stratford Too Faced Store HERE

Too Faced Peach Kissed Moisture Wear Matte Long Wear Lipstick in Homecoming Queen

The shade i fell head-over-heels in love with was Homecoming Queen because, well, you know me and brights. These lipstick are incredible and don’t get me started on the gorgeous  packaging. They are luxurious, glamourous and everything i want a lipstick to be. Infused with Sweet Fig Milk and Peach and embossed with Peaches on the actual bullet,  these are so, so, comfortable and complelty non drying on the lips. They offer a full colour pigmentation with one swipe and last up to 8 hours.

Too Faced Peach Kissed Moisture Wear Matte Long Wear Lipstick Swatches

I love these because they don’t leave that tell tale line around the lips when you are eating and drinking and they are so creamy soft on application, that you forget you are wearing them. Available in 17 wearable shades ranging from brights to nudes, these are some of my favourite Too Faced products. Available HERE

Rich & Dazzling High-Shine Sparkling Lip Gloss

Too Faced Rich & Dazzling High-Shine Sparkling Lip Gloss in Peach Crush

More of a Lip topper than a gloss these really do add the finishing touch to a lip look. If you love that pop of sparkle….and quite frankly who doesn’t, then adding one of these glosses will take your look from day to night In the swipe of a doe foot!

Too Faced Rich & Dazzling High-Shine Sparkling Lip Gloss in Rasin the Roof

Enriched with natural oils and a unique blend of light reflecting glitters and pearls these really add that touch of glam to a look.

Too Faced Rich & Dazzling High-Shine Sparkling Lip Gloss

I have the shades Sunset Crush (Rose Gold/Pink Shimmer) and Raisin The Roof (Rose Shimmer) and couldn’t be happier. They are not sticky, and really add a lovely final flourish to a make up look. Great to apply over a Matte Lipstick for a more intense look.

Back to you beauty in full face of Too Faced smiling

I hope you have enjoyed my talk through of some Too Faced products I am loving and don’t forget you can type Too Faced into the search enging of my blog to read many more posts on this brand. As I say time and time again, do not be afraid to experiment with brighter colours and new textures,  you might just be surprised at the final look and if you don’t like it? Wash it off and start again.

Too Faced Cherries

Make sure you head into a Too Faced store or counter soon with your head held high, armed with the knowledge of these products and don’t be afraid to play and swatch the textures before you buy them.

With make up products in general, it is time to make a stand, and not be ignored. March into those beauty stores with confidence, ask to test the latest colours and wear them with pride. Everything I am wearing in the photos, and all products mentioned, are available in  the shop collection below. However, I am wearing last years Limited Edition Gingerbread Palette but have listed this years.

I hope you enjoy this brand as much as I do and I really look forward to bringing you many more new releases including Christmas products from Too Faced. If you try any of these products above or play with more colourful looks I would love it if you would tag my hashtag on Instagram #Over40NotOverMakeUP

A HUGE Shout-out to Wizard Publicity for being incredibly generous with product for this post. I’d love to hear your thoughts on ageism in beauty. Have you been affected? Does it really exist? Let me know.

That’s ridiculous that only one PR actually wanted to get involved! What a fantastic PR! Clearly reading a need and understanding that they could help. It’s definitely encouraged me to check out more Two Faced products!

Hi Aine, I know right!!! So many women are struggling with this and clearly it goes on much deeper behind the scenes too. I think its amazing that a high profile brand such as Too Faced, that many think is aimed at younger people, actually cater for a very wide and diverse demographic, and I for one am here for it!! xxx

I’ve not yet tried anything from Too Faced but their products look lovely! The matte foundation particularly catches my eye, hopefully it will suit my late 50s skin.

Can’t get over the fact that only one company came back to you! Well done wizard! I only have a couple of things from too faced, both lip products and I I really like them. I need to try the foundation! Another fantastic article Sharon.

Thank you Laura, yes surprising really! I do love a Too Faced product and have for years, it would be great to see more mature women enjoying their products too x

  4. October 4, 2019 / 4:32 pm

This really makes me want to try out some Too Faced! Although I must admit that I would have assumed that they were more aimed at a younger market because of the styling of the products.

I also find as a blogger that it’s hard to get make up brands interested in the over 40 market. It’s ridiculous really since we tend to have more spending power, plus many of us have teenage daughters we’re buying for too.

      October 7, 2019 / 12:57 pm

I absolutely agree with all of the above! The funny thing is i feature many make up brands when they have something they want promoting, but when its directly about ageing…..tumbleweed. Too Faced has always been very kind with me and it is a brand I have enjoyed for many years.

  5. October 4, 2019 / 5:13 pm

This is the reason why I buy from QVC as you are not made to feel like an old middle age person . Next time I’m in town I have a look at this makeup x

So short sighted of so many beauty brands! You are right about budgets and I love the description ‘adventurous ‘.
I haven’t tried Too Faced Sharon but after reading this I will definitely give it a look.

I am over 50 so absolutely archaic. What am I doing even reading articles about beauty!!!!!!

What an enlightening blog – very telling that other brands you have worked with in the past ignored your approach. Shocking infact. The demographic that they all unwittingly shoved to fingers to , by not even responding , are a huge market and we can talk with our wallets. I have bought many TooFaced palettes and products in the past – I adore their quirkiness, cheeky names and obvs the quality too. Bravo for doing this Sharon xxxx Lucy xxxx PS you look amazing xxxxx

Thank you so much Lucy. Yes I agree, when they want me to generally promote something they are happy to oblige but because I wanted to write a specific post regarding 40 plus, it was a different matter. I have always loved and used Too Faced and I am so thrilled they actually came through xx

  8. October 8, 2019 / 5:04 pm

haha… Imagine what it’s like for me at 57! It’s a big erm, no. I do work with a couple of brands though that I love. I haven’t heard of this or tried this brand though. I will take a look xx

      October 11, 2019 / 8:17 am

Hi Laurie, it’s ridiculous isn’t it, but it’s not about which brands want to work with me its the reason and if they don’t want a 40 plus face wearing their make up, then they are alienating a huge market xx

  9. October 9, 2019 / 3:59 am

Age is just a number and men/women shouldn’t be made to feel unwanted. Wizard Publicity are lovely! Loved how in-depth you got into this subject!

Hi John, thank you so much for popping over! I know it should be shouldn’t it, but sometimes brands are scared that older faces “don’t sell” which is such a shame. Wizard are the best x

  10. October 9, 2019 / 5:58 pm

Good luck on your mission. Do you feel that there’s a trend towards PRs supporting women in their 20s with large Instagram followings rather that well-written and thoughtful blog posts?

      October 11, 2019 / 8:15 am

Hi Stuart, I absolutely do, sometimes it’s following over value, whether those followers have been bought or not, which is really sad. I love a blog, its free, well written content that is also available for all the time people to read.
